One of the more controversial players in modern NFL history needs a new home.

Vontaze Burfict’s questionable on-field actions have long overshadowed his talent, and the Cincinnati Bengals no longer have the financial incentive to wait out his deplorable choices in hopes of just one glimpse of the potential they routinely see on the practice field.

The Bengals have cut Burfict after failing to find a trade partner for the 28-year-old linebacker.

Burfict has been fined or suspended 14 times in his infamous NFL career, most notably for truly indefensible hits against the Bengals storied rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With Cincy seemingly signaling the white flag of a potential rebuild, they have no use for an expensive veteran who, surely, will not set a positive example for their young defensive players on the field or in the locker room.

The Arizona State alum’s best season clearly came in 2013, in which he made his only Pro Bowl. Since then, Burfict has yet to play in more than 11 games in a campaign, including participating in just seven matchups last season in an injury-plagued year.

For new coach Zac Taylor, parting with such a controversial figure was an easy decision.
