We all knew this was going to happen, but it’s now official.

Safety Earl Thomas was added to the Seahawks’ 53-man roster on Saturday, which means that he will be available to play in Seattle’s season-opener against the Broncos on Sunday.

To make room on the roster, the Seahawks waived rookie cornerback Simeon Thomas.

It is a good sign for Seahawks fans considering that Thomas sat out all of training camp and preseason during his contract holdout. While he ended his holdout on Wednesday, it wasn’t entirely clear if he was going to be ready and play this Sunday.

Being added to the roster points towards him to leading the Seahawks defense Week 1.

Fans thought that he might not have enough time to be ready for Sunday’s season-opener, considering that he only had a few days to be prepared. However, Pete Carroll explained on Friday that he was impressive all week, which probably hinted towards Thomas being added on the roster today.

If Thomas can shake off the rust early on and be the top safety we all know he is, then Seattle’s defense just got better.
