Alfred Morris, like many other aging running backs, found himself without a home as training camp began.

It was known that he wouldn’t be heading back to Dallas, but it was unclear whether or not he’d have a team once Week 1 rolled around. He still has some ground to cover, but we at least now know where he’ll get his opportunity.

Morris will be signing with the 49ers.

There’s nothing wrong with adding a little competition in the backfield.

This move comes after Jerick McKinnon suffered a knee injury at practice. Even though everything came back clean, San Fran still decided that adding a veteran presence to at least compete for a spot was necessary at this point.

Morris isn’t the pass-catching back that head coach Kyle Shanahan loves, but he still proved he was more than capable of handling rushing downs during their time together in Washington. The veteran still has to battle with Matt Breida, Raheem Mostert, and Joseph Williams for a spot. Considering his impressive 4.8 yards per carry last season, you can believe Morris is capable of the task.

He won’t take touches away from McKinnon as long as he’s healthy, but he is a solid back who can come in and handle the load when called upon.
