The dream continues for Shaquem Griffin.

Pete Carroll has announced that the rookie will start in their first game of the season this Sunday against the Denver Broncos as a strong side linebacker.

Griffin was selected by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft (141st overall), and has been given considerable media coverage throughout his football career due to playing without a left hand after having it amputated from the pain caused by amniotic band syndrome. His on-field product clearly speaks for itself, however, as Griffin was a second-team All-American at UCF.

The news that Griffin will start isn’t entirely a surprise, as he’s been getting playing time in place of K.J. Wright, who’s been recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery.

Wright is expected to start when he returns, but should Griffin prove he’s more than capable at the position, it should lead to increased playing time for the rookie down the road.

For Griffin, this is an amazing chance to prove he is more than just a Cinderella draft story. If we’ve learned anything, we ought to not doubt him.
